Non-Discrimination Policy

Organisation: Spectrum Dynamics CIC (Community Interest Company) | Effective date: 16 March 2026 | Review date: March 2027

Statement of Commitment

Spectrum Dynamics CIC is committed to providing equal access to SpektraBot and to conducting all business activities free from unlawful discrimination. We believe every child with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) deserves the same quality of guidance and support, regardless of their background or characteristics.

As a Community Interest Company, our purpose is social impact. Discrimination of any kind is fundamentally incompatible with that mission.

Scope

This policy applies to:

  • Our platform — SpektraBot and all related services
  • Our users — children, families, SENCOs, teachers, LA professionals, and any other person using our services
  • Our team — directors, employees, contractors, and volunteers of Spectrum Dynamics CIC
  • Our partners — suppliers, subcontractors, and collaborators

Protected Characteristics

In accordance with the Equality Act 2010, we do not discriminate on the basis of:

  • Age
  • Disability
  • Gender reassignment
  • Marriage and civil partnership
  • Pregnancy and maternity
  • Race (including colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin)
  • Religion or belief (including lack of belief)
  • Sex
  • Sexual orientation

We also do not discriminate on the basis of:

  • Socioeconomic background
  • Immigration status
  • Type or severity of special educational need or disability
  • Whether a child has an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) or is at SEN Support level
  • School type (mainstream, special, independent, alternative provision, electively home educated)

Platform Commitments

Inclusive by design

SpektraBot is designed to serve all users equally:

  • Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles are embedded in our interface and content presentation
  • Trauma-informed practice guides all AI responses, recognising that many families in the SEND system have experienced distress
  • Plain language is used throughout, with technical and legal terms explained in accessible ways
  • No paywall for families — our impact model ensures families can access guidance without cost barriers

AI fairness

We take specific steps to prevent bias in our AI system:

  • Our knowledge base is curated from authoritative legal sources (SEND Code of Practice, Children and Families Act 2014, tribunal decisions) that apply equally to all children
  • We regularly review AI responses for patterns that might disadvantage particular groups
  • Our system does not make decisions about children — it provides information to support human decision-making
  • We do not use personal characteristics to filter, rank, or modify the legal guidance provided

Accessibility

  • We follow WCAG 2.1 Level AA guidelines for web accessibility
  • Our interface supports screen readers, keyboard navigation, and high-contrast modes
  • Content is structured for cognitive accessibility, with clear headings, short paragraphs, and supportive formatting

Employment and Engagement

Although Spectrum Dynamics CIC is currently founder-led, as we grow we commit to:

  • Recruiting and engaging people based on merit, skills, and values — not protected characteristics
  • Making reasonable adjustments for disabled applicants and team members
  • Paying fairly and transparently, without discrimination
  • Creating an inclusive working environment where everyone can contribute fully
  • Welcoming applications from people with lived experience of the SEND system

Supplier and Partner Standards

We expect our suppliers and partners to share our commitment to non-discrimination. This includes:

  • Cloud infrastructure providers (Civo, Microsoft Azure) — we select providers who maintain their own non-discrimination and diversity policies
  • Technology partners — we will not knowingly work with organisations whose practices conflict with this policy
  • Schools and local authorities — we provide our services to all maintained schools and LAs without discrimination

Reporting and Complaints

If you believe you have experienced or witnessed discrimination in connection with Spectrum Dynamics CIC or SpektraBot:

  1. Contact us at the email address listed on our website
  2. We will acknowledge your concern within 5 working days
  3. We will investigate and respond within 20 working days
  4. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Equality Advisory Support Service (EASS) or the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC)

We will not tolerate retaliation against anyone who raises a concern in good faith.

Legal Framework

This policy is informed by:

  • Equality Act 2010 — the primary UK legislation prohibiting discrimination
  • Public Sector Equality Duty (s.149 Equality Act 2010) — relevant when we work with local authorities and schools as public bodies
  • UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) — ratified by the UK, informing our approach to disability inclusion
  • UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) — particularly Articles 2 (non-discrimination), 23 (disabled children), and 28-29 (education)
  • Children and Families Act 2014 — the legislative framework for SEND in England

Review

This policy is reviewed annually by the directors of Spectrum Dynamics CIC. It will be updated to reflect changes in legislation, our growth, and feedback from our community.
